Mel Gibson. From his Mad Max and Lethal Weapon days to Hamlet, When We Were Soldiers, and of course Braveheart, when it comes to actors who jump off the big screen, he’s at the top of any list.

Add to that his incredible directing credits that include The Passion of the Christ, Braveheart, and Hacksaw Ridge and Mel has an idea of what works in movies.

And who was one of the biggest influences on Mel’s style? Why, Steve McQueen!

Mel is one of the key people interviewed by Pastor Greg Laurie in his new documentary, STEVE MCQUEEN: AMERICAN ICON, which is coming to theaters as a special one-night event on Thursday, September 28.

Steve McQueen Cruises Back Into Theaters Sept. 28!

In the new documentary STEVE MCQUEEN: AMERICAN ICON, Pastor Greg Laurie travels through the late actor’s world in a car fitting the story—a replica 1968 Bullitt Ford Mustang. Needless-to-say, Pastor Greg is a big fan of McQueen.

“McQueen was Hollywood’s ‘King of Cool’ for a reason. His legacy lives on in a new generation as his image is ubiquitous in culture (especially hipster culture). He also still appears in modern films like the recent remake of The Magnificent Seven. Yet, for most boomers like me, we can’t forget when we saw the original version of The Great Escape as McQueen played Virgil Hilts in a role that propelled him to super-stardom. Then there’s his role as the detective Frank Bullitt.

“He literally flies his car through the streets of San Francisco in what is regarded by many as the greatest car chase scene in cinematic history. Steve McQueen was not cool because he drove the Bullitt car. The Bullitt car was cool because Steve McQueen drove it. … Only in America—with America’s dream—could McQueen transform his hardscrabble beginnings into epic stardom. Yet, until late in his life he struggled to find meaning in life, and he suffered because of it.”

You can see McQueen’s incredible faith journey when STEVE MCQUEEN: AMERICAN ICON hits theaters as a special one-night movie event on Thursday, September 28.

King of Cool Returns to the Big Screen

Once again, Steve McQueen is making news on the big screen! The Hollywood legend, still known as the “King of Cool,” is the focus of a special one-night movie event in theaters Thursday, September 28.

In an online article about STEVE MCQUEEN: AMERICAN ICON, Dan Wooding of ASSIST News Service writes:

“The film moves through in-depth interviews with McQueen’s wife, model Barbara Minty McQueen, and debuts her candid photographs from McQueen’s last years. Interviews also feature Academy Award®-winning actor Mel Gibson, renowned stuntman Stan Barrett, celebrated McQueen biographer Marshall Terrill, actors Barbara Leigh and Mel Novak, and the pilots who taught Steve to fly.”

The story goes on to quote Pastor Greg Laurie, the host of the documentary:

“It’s wildly ironic that one of the world’s most well-known men did something important that most people are unaware of. STEVE MCQUEEN: AMERICAN ICON documents a top star’s exodus from a world of fame and fortune to search for meaning, truth and significance.”

You can read the article here. Then be sure to get your tickets to see STEVE MCQUEEN: AMERICAN ICON when it’s in theaters on September 28 only.
